Thoughts on the foundation
By Annika Weiße (Daughter, Managing director)
Why is there a Dr. Stefan Weiße Foundation? The reason is quite simple. After the death of my father four years ago, my mother had the idea to establish a foundation. On the one hand, as my father had been considering it before his death but had not been able to do it in time. On the other hand, as there was the strong wish to commemorate his work and life through this foundation. That said, the Dr. Stefan Weiße Foundation hopes to achieve much more than this in the future.
The official aim of the foundation is to promote science and research. In addition to students of technological sciences, the foundation also nurtures talented young graduates and researchers. The foundation equally supports interesting research projects at the interface between medicine, physics and technology.
As the Executive Director of the foundation, my vision is to establish a community of engineers, scientists and physicians that facilitates knowledge exchange beyond their specific areas of activity and research. Since cutting-edge research is becoming increasingly interdisciplinary, I believe there is a growing demand for exchange with scientists from neighboring disciplines and fields. Ultimately, this will contribute to the advancement of research ideas, projects and findings in highly interdisciplinary fields such as neuromorphic engineering, for example.
I do not look upon the Dr. Stefan Weiße Foundation as just another of the many initiatives to promote science and research, but believe it can become a place where ideas are developed and exchanged within a positive and harmonious atmosphere.
“The opportunities he created through his tireless work will ensure talented young scientists have appropriate opportunities to develop their skills.”

Our journey to becoming a foundation
By Irina Weiße (Widow)
Shortly after obtaining his doctorate in 1990, my husband, Dr. Stefan Weiße, founded the company pls Programmierbare Logik & Systeme GmbH together with three of his former fellow students from TU Dresden. This step gave him the freedom to being fully committed to his own ideas and developments in the field of microelectronics. Under his guidance, the company became a technology leader in multicore debugging.
Through this foundation we want to commemorate and honor his name and to carry his work into the future. We believe our funding will inspire a new generation of researchers to pursue their curiosity and passion, just like my husband always did.
